You know a lot of people love their pets like family, and you always want the best for your family. Often this means getting your pet's hair done. Your dog always feels better after a great bath and trim, and your cat would love to relax at the spa all day. Why might you consider going to the groomer instead of just doing it at home?
You might think bathing is simple, and a hose in the backyard will do the trick. But a professional groomer has been trained to care for your pet and give them the proper treatment and suggestions that they need. From dry skin to matted hair, they will know the safest way to make your dog or cat feel better.
Groomers become familiar with the pets they do regularly, and the pets often become comfortable with them as well. They also become familiar with the pet’s body and can recognize issues even before you do. Often groomers will discover ear infections, dental disease, or skin infections before they become severe. Keeping the nails short lessens the chance of injury to you and your pet.
Not all groomers are the same. Make sure you look for someone who has taken the time to study the art of grooming. You also want someone who will listen to you and your pet. Does the groomer offer additional services besides just a bath? Are they affiliated with a veterinary hospital to provide medical care if needed?
Often, we think that shaving a dog will make it cooler, but that is not always the case. Studies have shown that if we leave the outer coat and get rid of the undercoat, the pets are much more comfortable. This is done with a special technique called a de-shed where the dog is bathed, then all the undercoat is blown and combed out. This leaves just the top outer coat to protect against the suns’ rays. Not all breeds of dogs have this undercoat, but a good groomer will know exactly how to care for your pet.
Check with your local veterinarian; they often have great recommendations for groomers and other services your pet may need. They are a great resource for your pets' overall health and well-being.
